Landscape Architecture, Golf and Athletic Grounds Maintenance

Instructor:  Mr.  Gradishar

Landscape Architecture, Golf and Athletic Grounds Management is a three-year program at Harford Technical High School.  The program is an updated format reflecting the changing dynamics of Harford County.

Landscape includes Computer Aided Design as well as Computer Imaging Programs.  Students learn through actual design, installation, and maintenance projects at school and in the community.

Golf Course and Athletic Grounds Management is new.  Students will participate in the installation and care of a school golf green learning turf care and maintenance.  Students will learn the operation and care of a skid loader, front end loader, backhoe, fork lift and other smaller machinery used on golf courses and sports fields.

Graduates successfully completing the program have an advantage over non-technical high school students. Students have the beginning of a skill that will allow them to achieve a good income within a few years of graduation, as well as preparing them for higher education at colleges and universities, and community colleges in related fields.

Area businesses where students may find employment include golf courses, landscaping companies, parks and recreational facilities, and environmental businesses.

Successful students in the program enjoy working outdoors, have good communication skills, demonstrate an aptitude for design, and are self-directed and motivated.
