What is Harford Technical High School? HTHS is a comprehensive high school for students in grades 9 through 12, offering State-approved Career and Technology Education programs in addition to a full academic program that meets Maryland State Department of Education requirements for graduation from high school. HTHS opened at its current location in 1978, on Thomas Run Road in Bel Air, across from Harford Community College. What does HTHS offer its students? · 19 Career and Technology Education Programs, all approved by the Maryland State Department of Education, that afford graduates a Career Completer Certificate upon successful completion of the program · A full range of academic classes to meet the needs of all students, including Honors classes and Advanced Placement courses · Activities, Interscholastic Athletics, Student Organizations What advantages do HTHS students have? · Opportunities to earn industry certifications in numerous technical programs upon completion of the program · Internships available through technical programs of study · Readiness to enter workforce directly from high school if that is the student’s choice · Preparedness for post-secondary study at 2- or 4-year colleges/universities · Opportunities to earn college credits through Tech Prep Articulation Agreements with Harford Community College and other area post-secondary institutions for work completed in high school technical program · Authentic career experiences during high school, with opportunity to participate in Cooperative Work Experience Program in grade 12 doing work related to the technical area of study · Military opportunities for students who complete specific programs in high school What is the admissions process at HTHS? The Application: · The application for grade nine will be available in September 2009 at www.hcps.org. · Click on the "Schools" tab, to the link to "Magnet Programs." · Begin the application process by creating a student account, then accessing the application. · The application can be completed and submitted on-line. · Deadline for applications to be submitted is December 4, 2009. Students begin each day at 7:37 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. Transportation to and from school is provided to all students via school bus. All students will take eight classes during the school year, with four classes meeting each day. Lunch is 30 minutes long, and five minutes are allowed between classes. IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR: · September, 2009: On-line applications to all magnet programs are available at www.hcps.org · October 14, 2009: Parent/Student Informational Video Presentation at Harford Tech, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Amoss Center (see www.hcps.org for other dates at other locations in September and October) · November 11, 2009: HTHS Open House for prospective students and their parents, 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. · December 4, 2009: Deadline for submission of applications for admission to grade nine · Late December, 2009: Notification to all applicants of eligibility for interview · January – February, 2010: Interviews of eligible applicants at middle schools · March 1 - 5, 2010: Notification of all interviewed students regarding admissions status, via letter mailed home · March 8 – 12, 2010: Students offered admission must accept or decline admission to HTHS · Early April 2010: Registration for all incoming ninth grade students offered admission
