Science & Business Administration 1. Why are you running for this office? I am running for County council District F because I do bring almost 25 years of elected experience to this position. I bring a trust that I have built with my experience, and I think this is very important when you are going to face the challenges in District F that are before us. Some of these challenges are BRAC, Growth, Education, and Public Safety. 2. If you are elected, what do you intend to do to improve the quality of education Harford County? I would work to bring the best teachers to Harford County by competitive salaries with signing bonus for those teachers in special areas. Then, I would push for retention of all teachers by keeping salaries competitive with other jurisdictions. I would work with our Annapolis Delegates and Senators to obtain our fair share of State monies. I would support the new Edgewood High School, the expansion for Aberdeen High School, and the new elementary school on the Route 543 corridor. 3. What do you intend to do to prepare Harford County for the influx of 30,000 new jobs created by BRAC? The preparation of the influx of jobs related to BRAC has already begun with the forming of BRAC Planning Committees and hiring the BRAC Manager. I support these efforts and have participated as the Mayor of Havre de Grace along with my staff. The Department of Defense is projecting about 8,200 civilian jobs and along with these are projecting some 20,000 subcontract and related jobs. Along with planning, we should work with the State of Maryland for prioritizing transportation projects. Here, we should visit our Planning & Zoning Codes for updating the codes for things like re-development on the Route 40 corridor. 4. What in your mind is the biggest problem facing Harford County as it enters the twenty first century and how do you expect to correct this problem? In my mind the big problem we are facing in Harford County as we enter the twenty first century is growth. By far, this is the time to strive to do what is right for Harford County. We must use this time to shape the growth issue by revising our codes to set standards on future growth. We are concerned about protecting our resources and being aware of what we want for Harford County to look like in the future.
